On October 18, 2025, Nghe An University (NAU), Vietnam successfully hosted an international webinar themed “Teaching English for a Sustainable Future: Integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into English Language Teaching.”
The event was co-hosted by three international partner universities:
– Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), Philippines
– Udon Thani Rajabhat University (UTRU), Thailand
– Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Philippines
In her opening remarks, Ms. Pham Thi Mai Anh, representing Nghe An University, emphasized the importance of integrating the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into English language teaching to foster global citizenship, social responsibility, and sustainable thinking among students in the context of international integration.
The webinar featured presentations by three distinguished speakers from the participating universities:
- Dr. Joseph Agbuya Villaram from Central Luzon State University, Philippines with the topic: English as a Tool for Sustainable Development
- Duong Bich Ngoc from Nghe An University, Vietnam
with the topic: English Teaching Strategies Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals - Merlina C. Garcia, MAEd, LPT from Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, Philippines with the topic Integrating Sustainable Development into English Teaching
The event attracted over 200 participants, including lecturers, students, and researchers from Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand. The webinar provided a meaningful platform for academic exchange and collaboration, where participants shared insights into the role of English in promoting global sustainable development and discussed innovative teaching strategies for empowering learners in the 21st century.
This international academic event reaffirmed Nghe An University’s strong commitment to educational internationalization, and its ongoing efforts to foster academic collaboration, innovation, and sustainable development across the ASEAN region.
