On February 6th, 2023, the Nghe An University of Economics signed a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnam One Health University Network (VOHUN). The event was attended by:PhD. Nguyễn Ngọc Hiếu, Rector; Dr. Trương Quang Ngân, Vice Rector, and the heads of departments, officials, and lecturers from the Agriculture and Forestry faculty. On the side of the Vietnam One Health University Network, PhD. Dr. Phạm Đức Phúc, VOHUN Coordinator, led the delegation, and members of the delegation.

Vietnam One Health University Network (VOHUN) is a network of universities in Vietnam established on November 22, 2012 and supported by USAID/RESPOND to promote and develop the “One Health” concept in Vietnam. VOHUN aims to disseminate and promote the results and benefits of the network more widely to respond to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and diseases transmitted from animals to humans. Nghe An University of Economics is honored to be one of the 30 universities nationwide participating in the program.

At a working session, the Rector of Nghe An University of Economics emphasized: The One Health Network of Vietnamese Universities is a connection and collaboration between nearly 30 member universities, which are strong in research and training in the field of science and health across the country. Becoming a member of a reputable and influential network is not only a great honor for Nghe An University of Economics, but also brings practical benefits. Faculty and students of the university will have many opportunities to participate in training courses from the VOHUN project. The Rector also believes that this cooperation will open up opportunities for both sides, contributing to maximizing the strengths of interdisciplinary fields of each side.

At the working session, PhD. Dr. Pham Duc Phuc – Coordinator of VOHUN introduced the network. According to the PhD, the approach of “One Health” is understood as the efforts in interdisciplinary collaboration at the global, national and regional levels in protecting human health, animal health, and the environment at universities. The VOHUN, with the vision of enhancing the capacity of interdisciplinary resilience, is responding to new and emerging infectious diseases and re-emerging diseases transmitted from animals to humans.

One of the goals of VOHUN is to develop the approach through training and research activities in universities, aimed at enhancing the capacity of lecturers and researchers who are trained to become “One Health” experts in the future.

PhD. Dr. Pham Duc Phuc – Coordinator of VOHUN introduced the network

“One Health” is understood as the efforts in multi-disciplinary collaboration at the global, national, and regional levels to protect human, animal, and environmental health, aimed at developing education and research programs in “One Health” at universities specialized in veterinary medicine. The purpose of the work session is for the parties to discuss the building and integration of “One Health” course modules for students of Veterinary Medicine, One Health Club at Nghe An University of Economics.

The trust and hope for a mutually beneficial partnership between VOHUN and the NAUE will continue to be strengthened, developed and expanded in various effective contents that both sides have potential, strengths and needs.
